Gender Continuum
Wednesday, May 9
Screening
7 pm
What does it mean to play with gender? Who defines my gender identity and where is my voice in the process? What is it like to have a penis and what does it mean to be pregnant? Do we fall in love with an identity, a role, a gender or a person?
This year’s program explores these questions and more. Join us for a fun, frolicking journey into gender identity and its meaning. Following the films, sit back and enjoy a live performance by the King’s of gender play, the Fake Mustache Drag King Troupe.
Something Else
Director: Shannon Olliffe
2004 - 3 minutes
Distributor: CMFDC

Genderpunk
Directors: Jim Lemoire and Claro Cosco
2006 - 14 minutes
Distributor: V tape
This video explores the policing of gender and gender identity within high schools from the perspective of a 16 year old transboy and his 29 year old queer high school teacher. Through the use of abstracted narrative and coded imagery, the work communicates these two personal narratives and their responses to institutional barriers for trans people at their high school. Pathological understandings of gender identity are challenged throughout, and diverse experiences of understanding what a boy might be are emphasized.
Hung
Director: Guinevere Turner
2005 -13 minutes
Distributor: Frameline
With the help of a magic potion, five lesbian friends experience a penis for a single day—sunrise to sunset. The day’s goal is clear, but the means are more difficult to come by as each puts her best foot forward to meet a special someone.

Mars-Womb-Man
Director: James Diamond
2006 - 14 minutes
Distributor: V-Tape

The equal sequel. Man from Venus (super 8, 4min,1998) meets Mars Womb-Man. She's an answer without a question and he a question without answer. A sustainable foreground emerges only when they forge paths. A motion portrait where opposites distract and the peripheral rule is born.
