CALL
FOR SUBMISSIONS - FILM & VIDEO
herland is now accepting
film & video submissions from women artists for the 2006 Festival
(May 1st - May 7th)
Gala Feature
Length Film or Video: We are accepting feature length films/videos
for our annual gala night celebration. Themes & Special requirements:
The submission can feature any topic or theme, provided that the work
is Canadian, fits into herland's mandate of highlighting works by women
and is a work of fiction. Preference will be given to recent works.
May Day:
International Workers Day: Every year herland collaborates with the
local activist, labour and women’s groups to contribute to the
celebration. Themes & Special Requirements: Wages and work conditions,
industry labour practices, “women’s work” and equal
opportunity, unregulated working environments, exploitation, emotive
and experimental depictions of lifestyle in relation to our work lives.
Screening copies must be available in either DVD or BETA. Any pieces
under 75 minutes in length. Priority will be given to content relative
to Canada. However, all submissions will be viewed and considered.
Local Motion:
Themes & Special Requirements: Works created by artists who live
in Calgary and the surrounding area. Artists who have recently relocated
must indicate date of move and completion date of works submitted. Any
pieces under 75 minutes in length.
International
Programme: Themes & Special Requirements: This year's International
Programme will feature works from Southeast Asia. Any pieces produced,
written, and/or directed by artists from Southeast Asia with a running
time under 75 minutes in length.
Shorts Programme:
Special Requirements: Only pieces running under 35 minutes in length
will be viewed. Strictly Canadian content.
Aboriginal
Programme: Themes & Special Requirements: The work and
talent of Aboriginal women is presented in a multi-disciplinary presentation.
Film and video works, poetry, song, drumming, installations and storytelling
proposals are welcome. Priority will be given to film and video works
created in and around the Canadian region. However, all submissions
will be viewed and considered. Any pieces under 75 minutes in length.
Queer &
Gender Continuum Programmes: Themes & Special Requirements:
Works created by, for, or about queer women or transgendered persons.
Content must have relevant themes or address relevant issues. Any pieces
under 75 minutes in length.
Eco-Feminism:
Eco-feminism challenges the notion that the natural world only has value
in terms of what it contributes to the GNP. Increasingly industrial
and post-industrial cultures have come to recognize that what has been
lost in the assimilation of indigenous cultures, and the unconscious
drive to 'pave paradise' is not simply 'planetary sustainability', but
some essential part of what it is to be human. We are looking for work
that explores the diversity of Eco-feminist approaches to current environmental,
social, and political problems. Themes (not limited to) & Special
Requirements: Climate Change and Indigenous Cultures, Biotechnology/Genetic
Theft, Anthropocentrism/Speciesism, Women's Spirituality and the Natural
World, Environmental Imperialism & Women, Eco-feminist Comedy, Population
